PADANG BESAR, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- Mutiara Perlis Sdn Bhd's wholly-owned subsidiary Inland Port Perlis Sdn Bhd (IPPSB), the developer of the advanced logistics hub Perlis Inland Port (PIP), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) and a memorandum of collaboration (MoC) with the Asosiasi Depo Kontainer Indonesia (ASDEKI).
These agreements represent a significant step in enhancing regional trade, optimising logistics, and strengthening Malaysia's position within the ASEAN logistics corridor.
In a statement today, executive chairman Datuk Shabaruddin Ibrahim said the MoU with PPSB alongside the MoC with ASDEKI reflect IPPSB’s long-term commitment to building a sustainable and resilient logistics ecosystem in Malaysia.
"By developing intermodal capabilities and forging partnerships with regional and global logistics players, IPPSB reinforces its role as a key contributor to Malaysia’s evolving logistics industry and ASEAN trade corridor," he said.
He explained that the MoU with PPSB focuses on integrated rail services and synchronised cargo handling, streamlining cargo transfers between PIP and Penang Port.
"This partnership marks a significant milestone for Northern Malaysia’s logistics landscape, driving economic growth and enhancing cross-border goods movement," he added.
This collaboration, he noted also includes efforts to consolidate empty containers at PIP to facilitate the management of transhipment cargo between Southern Thailand and Penang Port.
“This MoU signifies our shared commitment to shaping an efficient and seamless logistics network in Northern Malaysia. Collaborating with PPSB strengthens cross-border cargo movement and positively impacts the regional economy,” Shabaruddin said.
Meanwhile, he noted that the MoC with ASDEKI aims to expand IPPSB’s reach within the ASEAN region by fostering cross-border cooperation and improving logistics coordination with Indonesia.
Commenting on this, Shabaruddin said ASDEKI’s involvement underscores a shared framework for growth, allowing both countries to leverage logistics expertise and foster an integrated ASEAN logistics corridor.
"Expanding our network with ASDEKI positions PIP to support regional trade and foster economic ties with our Indonesian counterparts,” he said.
Shabaruddin emphasised that these strategic initiatives highlighted the commitment to optimising regional trade flows and bolstering cross-border logistics connections.
IPPSB is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mutiara Perlis Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Mutiara Infra Sdn Bhd and Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) Perlis.
