BSN Celebrates 50th Anniversary, Commits To 100 Pct Nationwide Service Coverage

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) is committed to achieving 100 per cent service coverage nationwide, in line with the aspirations of the MADANI government.

BSN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Awang Adek Hussin said that the bank has already covered 97 per cent of all districts across the country.

“With this comprehensive service coverage, BSN has been entrusted as the implementing agency for distributing the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) aid to nine million recipients, the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid to 8.4 million recipients, and several other assistance programmes,” he said during his speech at the 50th BSN anniversary celebration here today.

Also at the event, which saw about 1,200 staff members present, were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who was once a BSN officer and chairman, and Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

Awang Adek highlighted that BSN’s five decades of experience have brought significant successes, especially for marginalised groups, whether in remote areas or those considered to be at high financial risk.

He noted that BSN now serves nearly nine million savers, compared to 2.5 million savers at its inception in 1974.

The bank also boasts 387 branches nationwide, the most among all banks, as well as 2,300 banking agents and 10 mobile branches.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has also generously announced in Budget 2025 to add four more mobile branches, further expanding BSN’s banking services in rural areas, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak,” Awang Adek said.

Regarding micro-entrepreneur financing, BSN currently supports nearly 100,000 micro-financing accounts with a total amount close to RM2 billion.

Additionally, Awang Adek highlighted the various awards BSN has received, both nationally and internationally. 

These include the Graduates’ Choice of Employer Award by Talent Bank Group (Champion in Development Banking, 2024), Excellence Award for Community Banking in Malaysia 2024, Best Islamic Retail Banking Window in Malaysia 2024, Top FI Partner in SME Category 2024, Top Investment House in Malaysian Ringgit 2024, and the Special Award, Malaysia Best Employer Brand Awards 2024.
