PDRM Cannot Compromise On Any Misconduct - PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) --The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) leadership cannot compromise on any misconduct in order to safeguard the nation and the people, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said that this is crucial because the country demands change, including in areas such as economic growth and the well-being of the people.

“What enables the economy to grow, investments to flow in, and people to feel safe and secure, walking comfortably day and night, working night shifts at hospitals, and so on, is the efficiency and resilience of PDRM as a whole.”

The Prime Minister said this at the launch of the Independent Police Conduct Commission (IPCC), Police, Friends and Collaborators (IPFC) here today.

Also present were Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

Anwar said that PDRM remains a key pillar of defence in ensuring the safety and security of the people.

At the same time, the Prime Minister reminded the public not to forget the deeds and contributions of law enforcers, including the PDRM, who have also worked tirelessly in coordinating flood relief efforts.

“We see policemen at work not just for crime control, but more than that, as members of the community who care and help.

“They don’t get enough sleep, but they continue working, and if asked, they never say they are tired or the work is difficult,” he said.

The IPFC is a programme under the IPCC's strategic plan, with the role of realising the vision as a trusted independent monitoring body to enhance public confidence in the integrity of the police force.

The objective of the IPFC is to help monitor the conduct of police officers, protect the human rights of both civilians and police personnel, facilitate service delivery, and improve the effectiveness of the IPCC and PDRM.

To ensure the successful implementation of the IPFC, the IPCC will strengthen cooperation with strategic partners, including ministries, government departments and agencies, PDRM, foreign missions, non-governmental organisations, private companies, higher education institutions, the media, and the public.
