KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today expressed his appreciation to the private and corporate sectors for their contributions in helping to ease the burden of flood victims currently affected by the disaster in several states.
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said that these contributions, along with the efforts undertaken by the federal and state governments, local authorities, and government machinery, demonstrate the extraordinary strength of the people coming together to help solve public issues.
“The government welcomes the concern shown by the corporate sector in assisting flood victims. As of October, GLCs (government-linked companies) such as PNB (Permodalan Nasional Berhad), Petronas, Yayasan Hasanah, and Pharmaniaga have channelled aid worth over RM10 million.
“Insya-Allah, today I will also receive flood relief donations from leading private companies, with a total contribution exceeding RM35 million. Therefore, in this august hall, on behalf of the Senate, I extend my appreciation to all.”
Anwar said this when tabling the Supply Bill 2025 for the second reading at the Dewan Negara sitting today.
In his speech at the Prime Minister’s Department’s monthly assembly last Tuesday, Anwar also urged the private sector to lend a hand in easing the burden of flood victims, either by contributing funds or sending aid machinery to affected areas.
“We are grateful that when we call upon the corporate sector to help, they indeed came forward...within two days, we managed to raise RM35 million without any additional campaigns,” he said.
The number of victims in flood-affected states in the country decreased to 65,899 this morning compared to 67,453 last night.
Three states, namely Kelantan, Pahang and Johor, however, recorded a slight increase in the number of flood victims, while the other three states, Terengganu, Perak and Kedah decreased, and in Melaka, it remained the same.
