KANGAR, Dec 12 (Bernama) -- The reach of 5G coverage of up to 99.75 per cent in populated areas in Perlis will be a catalyst towards fostering a culture of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) among the people in the state.
Perlis Youth and Sports, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman Mohd Ridzuan Hashim said enhancing virtual technology and broadband facilities to meet the people's demand and support future development are part of the state government's efforts to promote sustainable use of science and technology.
"The state government is committed and has collaborated with relevant agencies such as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Kangar Municipal Council, and other government departments and agencies, achieving 99.75 per cent 5G coverage in populated areas.
"This ensures that the people of Perlis enjoy fast and convenient internet access, which also acts as a catalyst in cultivating Science, Technology and Innovation culture among the community," he said in response to a question by Gan Ay Ling (Indera Kayangan-PH) during the question-and-answer session at the State Assembly (DUN) sitiing here today.
Ay Ling had inquired about the state government's efforts to promote the sustainable use of science and technology at the community level.
Mohd Ridzuan added that the development of cluster-based education based on knowledge and high-tech city in Bandar Baru Ulu Pauh, Arau, is also part of the state government's planned development initiatives in sustaining the use of science and technology.
"For the record, these efforts have been systematically implemented by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation since the Eighth Malaysia Plan (RMK8) and are still being continued to nurture a first-class mindset in Perlis," he said.
