PADANG RENGAS, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- Polytechnics and community colleges are collaborating with 21 Village Development and Security Committees (JPKK) nationwide to implement various projects under the Sejahtera Komuniti MADANI (SejaTi MADANI) programme with funding amounting to nearly RM2.1 million.

Polytechnic and Community College Education Department director Dr Riam Chai Mau said that five projects have been launched in Perak since June as part of this collaboration.

“The actual number of JPKK applications involving collaboration between both parties under SejaTi MADANI is 55, but currently 21 projects have been approved for implementation.

“In Perak, the five projects that have been approved are in Gerik, Taiping, Pasir Salak, Chenderoh and Bagan Serai involving agriculture and livestock projects,” she said when met at a press conference after a visit to the Mushroom Cultivation Project in Kampung Buaia, here, today.

SejaTi MADANI, an initiative of the Unity Government, aims to stimulate economic activities at the community level to enhance income generation. It provides funding of RM50,000 to RM100,000 for eligible communities.

On Dec 17, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa announced that as of Dec 12, a total of 6,547 out of 8,923 applications reviewed under the SejaTi MADANI initiative had been approved, involving an allocation of RM590 million.

Riam explained that the role of polytechnics and community colleges in community-led projects primarily revolves around documentation and project monitoring.

“Our responsibility is to assist JPKK applicants in completing the necessary documentation for project proposals. Additionally, we assign several staff members to act as monitors, ensuring the smooth execution of these projects,” she said.

She further elaborated that her department is tasked with overseeing financial reporting and project progress updates, which are submitted to the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department.

“Once a JPKK project is underway, we conduct continuous monitoring and inspections. All project reports are subsequently forwarded to the ICU for follow-up action,” she added.
