Lively Atmosphere At Port Dickson, Popular Attraction During School Holiday

PORT DICKSON, Dec 26 (Bernama) -- When the school holiday season arrives, several tourist destinations in Negeri Sembilan, especially the beach resorts in Port Dickson, become popular attractions for both domestic and international visitors.

A Bernama survey conducted at Teluk Kemang Beach and Saujana Beach this morning revealed a lively atmosphere, with visitors enjoying recreational activities, including water sports, despite the cloudy weather.

Without the presence of the ‘blue tents,’ the beach area appears more spacious, providing greater comfort for visitors to choose their preferred spots. The scene was further enhanced by colourful mats and portable ‘healing’ chairs brought by the visitors themselves.

A visitor, Asmidah Rahman, 43, shared that she and her family left Sepang at 10 am to reach Teluk Kemang Beach, aiming to avoid traffic congestion and maximise their time enjoying the scenic coastline.

Recalling past visits, Asmidah admitted that the rows of blue tents had previously disrupted the experience.

However, she noted that the current setup allowed her family to enjoy the beach more freely and comfortably, without any obstructions.

“I always visit this beach because I love its beauty. Holidays like these are a perfect opportunity to bring the kids. In the past, we had to sit far from the restaurants because so many blue tent operators had placed their chairs along the beach, but now that's no longer an issue.

"This time, visiting Port Dickson is even more enjoyable. We can roll out our mats and bring our own ‘healing’ chairs. It used to be difficult to find space for mats because the area was crowded with blue tents charging high fees," she told Bernama today.

Mohd Azman Osman, 38, from Kuala Pilah, said that he used the school holidays as a chance to take his family on a picnic. The beach’s proximity made it a convenient choice.

“The kids really enjoy going to the beach. If we were to visit a beach farther away, it would be less convenient. Port Dickson is the ideal option, and besides, we want to support the state’s tourism industry. The blue tents that went viral before are gone, making the experience much more comfortable," he said.

The bustling beach activities not only create a lively atmosphere but also provide economic opportunities for local traders selling food, souvenirs, and handicrafts, thereby boosting the local economy.

A food stall owner, Aishah Ismail, 30, noted that the number of visitors during the holiday season has doubled compared to regular days, much to the relief of traders in the area.

"With the school holidays coinciding with Christmas, the number of visitors is significantly higher than usual. This has increased our profits. We’ve been opening the shop earlier and closing later to meet the demand," she said.
