KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 -- The Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), through the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), is inviting young researchers in medicine and biomedical sciences to apply for the 2025 Ranjeet Bhagwan Singh (RBS) Medical Research Grant.
In a statement, MOSTI announced that the grant offers funding of up to RM50,000 to support innovative research initiatives and applications are open until Feb 28.
“For 2025, one researcher will be selected through an evaluation process conducted by MOSTI and ASM. The eligible applicant must be a Malaysian citizen residing in Malaysia, aged 40 or below, hold at least a bachelor’s degree, and be employed at a local higher education institution or research institute.
“The grant recipient must complete the research within 24 months, with the funds disbursed to the respective institution,” read the statement.
Since its establishment in 1997, the RBS Medical Research Grant has supported over 28 research projects and 11 technical workshops, with funding exceeding RM860,000. Areas of research include oncology, infectious diseases, vaccine development and public health initiatives.
The RBS Medical Research Grant is awarded annually through the RBS Medical Research Trust Fund, which was established based on the will of Dr Ranjeet Bhagwan Singh. MOSTI acts as the trustee, while ASM serves as the implementing agency.
“Initiatives such as the RBS Medical Research Grant are vital for strengthening medical research and development (R&D) in Malaysia. They align with the goal of transforming Malaysia into a high-technology nation by 2030,” MOSTI said.
