YKM Allocates Over RM5 Million To Help 977 Orphans

PASIR MAS, Jan 8 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Keluarga Malaysia (YKM) has allocated more than RM5 million to help 977 orphans from 368 families nationwide.

YKM chairman Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the assistance is provided to individuals from the B40 category who have lost one or both parents to COVID-19.

He said the allocation is provided by YKM for one year through monthly and one-off assistance for eligible individuals.

“Out of the total, 105 individuals from 35 families are from Kelantan. In addition to monthly assistance of RM200 to RM250, recipients are also eligible for a one-off aid during festive seasons and school reopening periods,” he told reporters after the Ziarah Kasih programme at Kampung Bechah Palas, Bunut Susu, here today.

Ismail Sabri said beneficiaries would continue to receive aid until they turn 18 or if pursuing higher education until they complete their degree.

He said that the allocated fund is from the government but YKM also seeks additional funding to support selected families.

He also urged local leaders to assist YKM in identifying families in need, noting that many are hesitant to share their details - particularly bank account information - due to concerns about scams, making it challenging to gather accurate information.

“YKM was established specifically to look after orphans who have lost one or both parents. We will take care of them from a young age until they turn 18, and if they pursue higher education, we will continue to provide assistance,” he said.
