SHAH ALAM, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- Selangor deputy state secretary (Management) Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi has been appointed chief executive officer (CEO) of the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Secretariat, effective yesterday.
State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said Venu Ramadass was appointed the secretariat’s chief operating officer (COO) effective the same date.
Mohd Najwan, who is also chairman of the Organising Committee for SUKMA 2026, said the appointment letters were presented by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari during the State Executive Council meeting yesterday.
“The selection and appointment of these experienced individuals were decided by the state government in a meeting last November. Their roles will extend until the conclusion of SUKMA Selangor 2026,” he told Bernama.
He added that Mohd Yazid would oversee the preparation of infrastructure and venues, as well as act as a facilitator for matters involving collaboration with local authorities and government offices.
“Mohd Yazid was the deputy chief of Selangor’s contingent in SUKMA 2024. His experience from the initial stages of SUKMA Sarawak to its completion has given him a strong understanding of managing and preparing for such events,” he said.
Mohd Najwan further said Venu’s selection as COO took into account his extensive experience in sports broadcasting as a former Astro Arena channel manager.
“He has also worked as a broadcasting and production consultant, contributing to the organisation of the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia and was part of the organising committee for the Badminton Asia Team Championships in Selangor in 2022 and 2024,” he said.
Mohd Najwan said the appointment of additional officers to assist the secretariat would follow, with the first meeting scheduled soon.
This will be followed by discussions with other states to finalise the list of sports beyond the 28 core events.
On July 18, 2024, the SUKMA Supreme Committee confirmed Selangor as the host of SUKMA 2026 after the state volunteered to organise the biennial event.
