Lorry Driver Seriously Hurt In Three-vehicle Collision

MELAKA, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- A lorry driver was seriously injured after being trapped in a three-vehicle pile-up involving two lorries and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at Kilometre 178.5 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound from Tangkak to Jasin today.

Ayer Keroh Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) operations commander, senior officer II (PBKII) Mohd Azlan Ramli said they sent a team to the scene after receiving a distress call at about 11.15 am.

At the scene, he said, they found a 34-year-old man trapped in a 20-tonne lorry and who suffered facial injuries.

“Two victims, aged 31 and 20, in a five-tonne lorry sustained minor injuries while the 39-year-old SUV driver was unhurt,” he said in a statement.

He added that they managed to extricate the trapped victim before sending all three injured individuals to the Jasin Hospital.

The rescue operation involved 20 personnel, including officers from BBP Ayer Keroh, with assistance from BBP Tangkak.
