SABAK BERNAM, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has distributed RM36.4 million in tithes to assist asnaf, the poor, and Muslim convert families with school fees and supplies for this year’s school session.

LZS chief executive officer Mohd Sabirin Sarbini said the assistance would benefit 70,000 students, comprising 1,119 pre-schoolers, 33,117 from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK), 7,790 from Sekolah Rendah Agama, and 36,292 from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) and Sekolah Menengah Agama.

He said that the school fee assistance would be channelled through payment methods, such as crediting it into the head of the family’s bank account, V-Cash, or cash, starting this Saturday (Jan 18).

“The minimum school fee assistance that each student will receive is RM100 for Kindergarten or Pre-School, RM150 for SK or Sekolah Rendah Agama, and RM250 for SMK or Sekolah Menengah Agama.

“The maximum rate for school fee assistance is RM1,200 per family, with an additional aid of up to RM800 per family, depending on the school level of the family’s dependents,” he said during the 2025 LZS Education Aid Distribution Symbolic Programme here today.

Mohd Sabirin said that for assistance in the form of school supplies, SK students would receive RM170 each, Sekolah Rendah Agama students RM150 each, and SMK or Sekolah Menengah Agama students RM200 each.

He said that students who received the aid were required to buy a pair of school uniforms, while the remaining amount could be used to redeem other school items such as stationery, sports or physical education or co-curricular attire and books according to the conditions and guidelines set.

“Assistance in the form of school supplies will be available for redemption starting this Saturday and until April 17.

“For information, aid recipients in all nine districts may visit any designated supermarket or outlet to redeem school supplies, based on the amount of aid received,” he said.

During the event, Public Islamic Bank Berhad (PICC) presented wakalah contributions amounting to RM22,500 to 50 selected heads of families from the Sabak Bernam district.
