KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- Terengganu FC captain Safawi Rasid is determined to deliver his best performances for his club, leaving the decision regarding his inclusion in the national squad entirely in the hands of Harimau Malaya head coach Peter Cklamovski.
He believes that positive displays will be a key factor in the Australian coach’s evaluation when selecting players for the national team as they prepare for the third round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
“Of course, when a new coach comes in, it gives players motivation, and we need to work on building our teamwork.
“It's important to perform for my club, and the decision for me to play rests with the head coach,” he said during the launch of Harimau Malaya’s new jersey yesterday.
Safawi described Cklamovski, who officially began his duties this week, as a firm and disciplined coach.
In the third round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, scheduled from March 25 to 31 next year, Malaysia have been drawn into Group F alongside Vietnam, Nepal and Laos.
Only the group champions will qualify for Asia’s premier football tournament, set to take place in Saudi Arabia from Jan 7 to Feb 5, 2027.
