PEKB: KPKT Targets 1,060 Participants This Year

KOTA BHARU, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) aims to attract 1,060 participants to the Urban Community Economic Empowerment Programme (PEKB) nationwide this year.

KPKT Community Well-being Division secretary Azizul Kamaredzuan Azizul Akimi said that the programme aims to enhance the skills of the target group, particularly the B40 community, while improving their quality of life and narrowing the urban poverty gap.

“The PEKB programme will also focus on providing exposure to digital technology, to ensure that participants are not left behind in the fast-evolving technological landscape,” he said.

Azizul Kamaredzuan also encouraged non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to support participants in marketing their services, helping them generate income and reach a broader market.

He said this during the closing ceremony of the PEKB 2025 Frozen Food Processing Course, where he also presented course completion certificates to 35 participants.

Since its inception in 2013, PEKB has trained 16,955 participants from the B40 group through various courses, such as sewing, personal grooming, and phone repair.

One of the participants, Nur Hanani Azmi, 26, from Kampung Pasir Pekan in Tumpat, said the programme had equipped her with valuable knowledge to become an entrepreneur.

She expressed hope that similar initiatives would continue in the future to help the B40 community generate income and expand their businesses.
