1,000 Students In Sarawak Receive Bank Rakyat’s Back-to-school Impetus

KUCHING, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- Bank Rakyat, in collaboration with the Sarawak Education Department, channelled RM100,000 in donation to 1,000 students from 45 schools through the Bank Rakyat MADANI Community Outreach Programme: Back to School in the state.

The donation was presented by Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development, Datuk Ewon Benedick at a ceremony held at the Sarawak Education Department office here today.

Ewon, in his support for the programme, encouraged more collaborative initiatives between the public, private and community sectors to improve the well-being of the people in ensuring that no one is left out of receiving quality education.

“In this regard, I would like to congratulate and commend the board of directors and management of Bank Rakyat for the implementation of this programme, which reflects Bank Rakyat’s high commitment to making positive contributions to the community, including in rural areas,” he said.

According to a statement from Bank Rakyat, this initiative benefits students from underprivileged families in the Kuching, Lundu, Bau and Padawan districts, to provide cheerful respite to students before the new school session begins.

As part of its charitable efforts, Bank Rakyat also donated RM10,000 to the Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah Children’s Home here.

Bank Rakyat chairman Datuk Mohd Irwan Mohd Mubarak said this initiative is not just about channelling material assistance but also to elevate the dignity of the needy and ensure that no one is left behind in achieving success.

“Bank Rakyat will continue to ensure that each of our programmes and initiatives provide lasting benefits. We believe that by supporting these values ​​of social responsibility, we can help build a more prosperous and competitive society,” he said.

Meanwhile, deputy director (student development sector) of the Sarawak Education Department, Zamzaitul Akmal Hisham Ahmad expressed his appreciation to Bank Rakyat for its concern to empower the educational journey of underprivileged students in rural areas.

“Bank Rakyat’s initiative today is a significant effort, not only in helping to ease the financial burden of parents in providing for the needs of children in school, but also towards the development of their education,” he added.
