NEW DELHI, Jan 29 (Bernama-AA) -- The Indian Space Research Organisation announced Wednesday that it successfully launched a navigation satellite into orbit, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.
The geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV) carrying the navigation satellite NVS-02 took off at 6.23 am. (0053GMT) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, the organization said.
“The GSLV-F15/NVS-02 mission has been successfully accomplished. India reaches new heights in space navigation,” it wrote on X.
This was the 100th liftoff from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, and over a span of 99 launches, various missions have been carried out, the organisation said.
It said NVS-02 is the next-gen satellite in the Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) series.
NavIC, according to the space organisation, is the country's independent regional navigation satellite system “designed to provide accurate position, velocity and timing service to users in India as well as to regions extending about 1,500 kilometres (932 miles) beyond Indian land mass.”
