Unity And Family Values Are Foundation Of Federal Territories' Progress – Zaliha

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 31 (Bernama) -- The foundation for the progress of the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan, is the spirit of unity and family values that is deeply ingrained within these communities, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Dr. Zaliha Mustafa.

She described the Federal Territories not just as places to live, but as spaces where people from diverse backgrounds unite to build dreams and create lasting memories.

"Here, every street we walk and every towering building stands strong due to our collective effort and hard work.

"Yet, progress means little if our hearts are empty and our spirits divided. What truly makes the Federal Territories special is not just its modernisation, but the spirit of unity and family values woven into every corner,” she said in her message for 2025 Federal Territories Day, themed ‘Our Federal Territories’.

Federal Territories Day is observed on Feb 1 to commemorate the declaration of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan as Federal Territories, with this year marking its 21st anniversary.

Dr. Zaliha highlighted that Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya each possess their own distinct identities: Kuala Lumpur as the nation’s economic hub, Labuan as a "gem" offering international opportunities, and Putrajaya as Malaysia’s administrative centre.

"However, beyond the towering buildings and bustling streets, we are all souls who support, help and care for each other. What is the value of a great city if its people do not hold onto the values of humanity and love?"

"Today, I call on all of us to move forward with open hearts. Together, let’s bring goodness and a renewed spirit to the residents of the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya," she said.

Dr. Zaliha also encouraged the residents of the Federal Territories to prove that progress is not only about grand buildings but also about universal noble values and traditions.

"Believe me, every small effort has a big impact. The smiles we share, the litter we pick up, and the neighbours we greet—all contribute to building a better community.

"The Federal Territories are our home, and a happy home is built on love, respect, and shared responsibility," she concluded her message with the greeting, "Happy Federal Territories Day 2025".
