Immigration Dept Arrests 160 Illegal Immigrants In Raids In Negeri Sembilan, Penang

SEREMBAN, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- The Immigration Department detained 116 illegal immigrants in an operation at a brick factory in Kuala Pilah and a industrial construction site in Port Dickson yesterday.

Negeri Sembilan Immigration director Kennith Tan Ai Kiang said that those detained in the operation from 8.30 am to 5 pm were between 20 to 55, with nine of them being Pakistani men, 13 Indonesian men and two Indonesian women, five Indian men, two Myanmar men, 74 Bangladeshi men and 11 Chinese men.

“During the raid on the construction site, Immigration officers had to chase the immigrants, and one of them jumped from the ceiling of the construction building frame but was uninjured. All of them were apprehended without any untoward incidents,” he said in a statement today.

The immigrants were held for various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963 and have been sent to the Lenggeng Immigration Depot for further investigation.

Meanwhile in BUTTERWORTH, the Penang Immigration Department detained 44 illegal immigrants working in the state under an operation at three factories in the state on Wednesday.

Its director, Nur Zulfa Ibrahim said three Myanmar men and 25 Myanmar women, 10 Bangladeshi men, one Nepali man and two Nepali women, two Indonesian men and one Indian were detained during the raids on two factories in Central Seberang Perai district and a business premises in Barat Daya district.

"The department checked 147 foreigners and detained 44 of them, including 27 women, aged 20 to 40 for various offences under the Immigration Act,” she said.
