KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- The first director-general of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA), Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali retired today after serving with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) for 38 years.
A celebration marking his retirement was held at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre at 5 pm today, and was attended by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain and former IGP Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
Hazani served as Internal Security and Public Order Department director from 2012 to 2024 prior to his appointment to the MCBA on Jan 31, 2024.
Today’s celebrations were kicked off with a PDRM band performance led by Hazani, followed by a poetry recital and a street-lining by all those who attended.
Hazani was born on Feb 10, 1965 in Machang, Kelantan and began his career in the police force as platoon commanding officer (BN 14 Kuching) in 1988 before being assigned as Pegawal Gerakan (UTK, Bukit Aman) from 1989 to 2002.
He performed admirably to become Commander of the Home Ministry’s Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) (2017-2020), Sabah Police Commissioner (2020-2021), before being appointed as Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director (2021-2024).
His leadership qualities were not only admired by those in the police force, but also his determination to ensure that his duties to safeguard national sovereignty and security were carried out well.
Under his leadership, the PDRM overcame several militant and terrorist threats in Sabah waters and as Sabah Police Commissioner, he played a major role in tackling threats of intrusions, smuggling and cross-border crime in that region.
His successes include strengthening national security, tackling terrorist threats, and leading cross-border crime prevention operations, and played a major role in the gazetting of the Border Control and Protection Agency Act 2024.
