KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the world, with advancements in transhumanism, quantum computing, and superintelligence raising profound questions about the future of humanity.
These themes were at the forefront of discussions during the launch of How AI Will Shape Our Future: Understand Artificial Intelligence and Stay Ahead, which is the latest book by Pedro Uria-Recio, a globally recognised AI and digital transformation leader.
The event, held Monday at the residence of the French Ambassador to Malaysia, Axel Cruau, gathered members of the French Tech ecosystem and French diplomats.
In his opening remarks, Cruau highlighted AI’s growing influence beyond technology, noting its deep entrenchment in political and economic landscapes worldwide.
He emphasised the significance of Feb 10 as the date of the book launch, coinciding with the AI Action Summit in Paris, where world leaders, CEOs, AI experts, and a few Malaysian startups convened to discuss AI’s role in governance, healthcare, science, culture, and democracy.
“Today is a special day for the French Tech Ecosystem (relating to the AI Action Summit) and the launch of Pedro’s book, How AI Will Shape Our Future.
“I understand that you (Pedro) have already sold more than 15,000 copies, making it an Amazon bestseller in the United States (US).
“In France, it has also secured the top position in the business and information categories on Amazon since its publication (in September 2024),” Cruau said.
Pedro’s book explores AI’s revolutionary impact on various sectors, from genetic modifications aimed at enhancing human strength and longevity to the integration of cybernetic technologies.
He underscored AI’s potential in transforming human biology, predicting that initial advancements in genetic engineering could pave the way for more radical changes in the future.
One of the key discussions at the event centred on AI’s dual-edged effect on the job market.
Pedro presented both utopian and dystopian possibilities, acknowledging that while AI will create new opportunities, it will also displace many traditional jobs.
“Some will find themselves in a utopian future, while others may face a dystopian reality, with many caught in between,” he noted.
Looking ahead, Pedro addressed the rise of quantum AI and the potential emergence of superintelligence, an area rapidly gaining traction in global discussions.
He posed a critical question: How can superintelligence be controlled? He emphasised that AI governance remains one of the most pressing challenges of the era.
The event allowed attendees to engage directly with Pedro, who encouraged thought-provoking discussions on the latest AI developments, the World Economic Forum’s stance on AI, and key takeaways from the ongoing AI Action Summit in Paris.
As AI continues to evolve, How AI Will Shape Our Future provides insights into the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead, making it a timely and essential read for policymakers, business leaders, and the wider public alike.
