KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- National track cyclist Muhammad Fadhil Mohd Zonis aims to set a personal best of 58 seconds in the men’s elite 1-kilometre (km) individual time trial at the 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships (ACC), which begins on Feb 21.
He said that while he had already won a gold medal at a previous ACC, this year, his goal is to set a personal record to prove that he can still make an impact.
According to him, he has regained his confidence after a long break last year, especially following his performance in the second leg of the ASEAN Track Series (President’s Cup) last January.
“My main target at the ACC has always been the 1km time trial. If I qualify this time, I want to aim for 58s. Not many in Asia have achieved this record, and I also want to regain my medal.
“Besides that, I’ll also be competing in the team keirin event, and if possible, I’d like to win a medal there too,” he told reporters recently.
Muhammad Fadhil added that the national squad is still searching for a lead rider to complete the team for the keirin event, in which he will compete as the third rider, while Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom will be the second.
The 2025 ACC will be held at the National Velodrome in Nilai from Feb 21 to 27.
Muhammad Fadhil was forced to withdraw from the 2024 ACC in New Delhi after contracting a viral infection.
At the 2023 ACC, he won his first-ever gold medal in the 1km time trial with a time of 1 minute 00.559 seconds.
