KOTA BHARU, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- A total of 1,430 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates from 58 schools in Kelantan who are struggling with Bahasa Melayu and History will benefit from the 'Program Anak Kita' by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) this year.

USM Senior Consultant of the Social Innovation and Knowledge Transfer Unit, Syed Yusof Syed Kechik, said 52 mentor teachers, comprising USM students, have been appointed to facilitate the programme.

He said the programme will assist SPM students from the B40 group in mastering the two crucial subjects through digital or online learning outside school hours.

"This approach aims to provide students with a conducive environment to revise their lessons guided by mentor teachers, ultimately improving their SPM performance," he said.

He said this at the launch of the Program Anak Kita: SPM 2025 and the RIMBA (Revolutionary Basic Reading, Writing and Counting Intervention) programme, as well as the handover of tablets at the State Education Department Complex today. The director of the Curriculum Development Division of the Education Ministry, Nooraini Kamaruddin, officiated the event.

At the event, Nooraini handed over a placard for accepting 1,430 tablets and SIM cards to Kelantan deputy education director for the Planning and Management Sector, Mat Lazim Mohammad.

Meanwhile, Syed Yusof said 575 students from 16 schools in the state also participated in the SPM Acceleration Programme 2024 under 'Program Anak Kita.'

"Kelantan is also participating in the 3M programme (Reading, Writing, Counting) under the RIMBA Programme, involving 5,420 students from 140 primary schools," he added.

'Program Anak Kita' is a joint initiative by the Finance and the Education ministries to address learning recovery issues for primary and secondary school students.

The goal of the SPM Acceleration Programme 2024 and 2025 is to ensure that candidates qualify for the SPM certificate.
