ISTANBUL, Feb 24 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- An unidentified gunman was detained after shooting a restaurant owner and taking multiple customers hostage on Monday in northwestern Türkiye, Xinhua reported, citing local media outlet NTV.
The incident occurred around 12.30 pm local time (0930 GMT) at a restaurant in the Osmangazi neighbourhood of the Gebze district, Kocaeli province, NTV reported.
The restaurant owner was reportedly severely wounded and rushed to hospital.
Following the attack, police and special operations units quickly cordoned off the area around the restaurant, and the gunman was later subdued by the special forces after a standoff, NTV reported.
According to NTV, the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
