IPOH, March 3 (Bernama) -- Tourism Perak Management Berhad and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Malaysia today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to implement the Roar of Legacy campaign, an initiative to conserve the Malayan Tiger, including strengthening ecotourism awareness in Perak.

State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said the campaign aimed to raise awareness on the importance of conserving the iconic species.

"Through this initiative, we are not only paying attention to conservation efforts, but also how conservation elements can be combined with the development of the tourism sector.

"Among the steps that will be taken include introducing conservation-based tourism programmes, creating more environmental education activities and encouraging responsible tourism practices among tourists and industry operators," he said when speaking at the MoU ceremony here.

At the ceremony, Tourism Perak was represented by its chief executive officer, Nurmalis Musa while WWF Malaysia was represented by its interim chief executive officer, Nik Izuan Nik Mohammed and was witnessed by Loh.

Meanwhile, Loh said the campaign was also in line with the Perak Sejahtera 2030 direction in integrating conservation into the tourism industry to ensure that natural treasures continue to be a major tourism asset.

According to Loh, various awareness and promotional programmes will be implemented throughout the campaign including exposure on the state tourism social media platforms and activities with the local community.

"With this collaboration, we have the opportunity to further strengthen Perak's appeal as a major destination for sustainable tourism, thus making the state a model in the balance between tourism development and nature conservation," he said.
