BENTONG, March 3 (Bernama) -- Midea Scott and English Electronics Sdn Bhd (Midea Malaysia) is targeting RM1 billion in sales this year to sustain its double-digit growth momentum as demand for energy-efficient appliances surges.
Managing director Mark Tam said the demand for energy-saving inverter air conditioners has significantly increased in the past year, from a low of 10 per cent to over 50 per cent of the country’s air conditioner market.
“This is reflected in our air-conditioner lineup, the (company’s) fastest-growing product, with a year-on-year growth of 37 per cent.
“This shows that the demand for energy-saving products is on the rise and increasing rapidly,” he said at the unveiling of Midea’s 2025/2026 product lineup at the Genting International Convention Centre today.
Tam elaborated that Midea currently works with over 1,000 dealers nationwide and plans to further strengthen its market presence by upgrading 50 Midea brand stores over the next two years.
“We want to ensure greater accessibility to our products, and these upgraded stores will showcase our latest Internet of Things (IoT) enabled appliances,” he said.
Tam said that with rising electricity tariffs, energy efficiency has become a key consumer consideration.
“Midea’s latest air-conditioners and refrigerators are certified by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA), with 34 air-conditioner models and 13 refrigerator models achieving a four-star rating or higher,” he said.
Tam said the company’s new smart home appliances are designed to integrate seamlessly with its SmartHome app, allowing users to control appliances remotely.
“Consumers today have busy lifestyles, and they want convenience. Our smart home range, including InstaFit refrigerators and new laundry solutions, is built to address this need,” he said.
Tam said that to strengthen customer satisfaction, Midea has introduced a 48-hour repair turnaround time for air-conditioners, while other appliances will have a five-working-day repair commitment.
“This is an industry-leading service standard because we believe that a happy customer is a returning customer,” he added.
