KOTA BHARU, March 13 (Bernama) -- Ramadan bazaar traders in Kelantan have been reminded to always maintain food hygiene and avoid selling spoiled food to prevent health risks to customers.

Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan stressed that selling food that is no longer safe to eat could not only harm the health of buyers but also raise questions about the blessings of the income earned.

"If spoiled dishes are still sold, we fear that the income we receive may not be blessed and could even be considered haram. The earnings from sales during Ramadan should be clean, halal and good," he told reporters after attending the Nur Ramadan Wanita programme at Masjid Muhammadi here today.

He also stressed that the uniqueness of Kelantanese food is one of the main attractions for tourists in the state, thus aspects of hygiene, authenticity of recipes and fair pricing must always be maintained.

Mohamed Fadzli also reminded traders not to take advantage of the Ramadan period by charging unreasonable prices.

"Kelantan is renowned for its delicious food, reasonable prices and friendly people. I urge traders to act as ambassadors of this state, as they are at the forefront in introducing Kelantan's image to the public," he said.

Yesterday, a husband and wife were shocked to find that the ikan cencaru berlada they had bought from a stall in Wakaf Zin, Bachok, was infested with maggots when they reheated it for sahur.

According to them, the dish was purchased the previous afternoon, and it was only discovered later that the inside of the fish contained dead maggots.
