Bernama Receives RM33,530 In Zakat Wakalah From MAIWP

KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) today received zakat wakalah contribution amounting to RM33,530 from the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) to assist staff in need.

Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said the zakat would be distributed to the agency's staff and family members to ease their financial burden and as preparation to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

She said about 59 Bernama staff and their family members to receive the benefit and the remaining zakat distribution will be contributed to the Bernama surau.

"We are grateful for the zakat wakalah contribution, it will at least ease the burden of staff who are in the asnaf (eligible tithe recipients) group or have children with disabilities and for medical needs,” she said.

MAIWP Wakalah Management Unit, Zakat Distribution Division representative Umar Mukhtar presented a mock cheque for the zakat to Nur-ul Afida and it was witnessed by Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai during the 2025 Bernama Iftar event at Wisma Bernama today.

Also present were Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, deputy editor-in-chief (News Service) Nasriah Darus, deputy editor-in-chief (Economic News Service) Azlina Aziz and department heads.

Meanwhile, Nur-ul Afida said that the iftar event is one of the activities to enliven the Ramadan month, besides providing an opportunity to strengthen ties among the Bernama staff.

In addition, the event also featured a Ramadan tazkirah (talk) by invited speaker Abdul Fatah Yusof, the Islamic Affairs Office at the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department of the Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters.
