PUTRAJAYA, Dec 30 (Bernama) -- The government will take no compromise in tackling corruption, regardless of whether it involves opponents or allies, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the government will continue to act firmly against the menace to safeguard the nation and ensure public funds are used prudently for the welfare of the people.

“We will not compromise; we will not accept any threats from any party, and we will take a firm stance on this issue whether it involves friends or foes,” he said at a special press conference here today.

The Prime Minister said the latest developments in investigations into corruption cases involving politicians, senior government officials and the Malaysian Armed Forces were among matters that had been briefed to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, at Istana Pasir Pelangi in Johor Bahru today.

Anwar said although the MADANI government has emphasised governance and welfare in efforts to combat corruption, there are still some individuals trapped in the framework and culture of the old, broken system.

Previously, the media reported that a former minister who served in the Cabinet before the COVID-19 era is being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over alleged misappropriation during his tenure at a ministry.

The investigation involves the transfer of a high-value government land plot to a prominent property developer.

The MACC is also investigating a senior army officer over allegations of corruption involving the procurement of projects carried out through an open tender system under the Army’s Responsibility Centre.
