Investigation Paper On TKAT-MINDEF Case To Complete Next Friday - MACC

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- The investigation paper involving allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds from the Armed Forces Welfare Fund (TKAT) and the Ministry of Defence, implicating two high-ranking officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), is expected to be completed by next Friday at the latest.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the investigation has been ongoing since Oct 7, but it was not publicly announced.

As part of the investigation, four senior MAF officers and nine civilians were detained to assist inquiries.

Azam, however, declined to elaborate on the nature of the alleged corruption and fund misuse involving the two senior officers.

“One high-ranking military officer came forward to give a statement last Sunday and Monday, while another did so yesterday. Both have been detained, but not remanded,” he said during a special press conference here today.

Azam said the investigation papers are nearly complete and will be submitted to the public prosecutors with a recommendation to charge the two officers by next Friday.

He also revealed that during the investigation, the MACC seized two Mercedes-Benz vehicles, a Toyota, a Proton Iris, two Yamaha XMAX 250 motorcycles and a Honda ADV 150 motorcycle.

“Cash seizures totalled RM1.3 million, while foreign currency amounted to RM721,000. Authorities also confiscated 66 gold bars weighing 2.49kg valued at RM1.7 million, and froze eight company accounts and four personal accounts involving a total of RM4.7 million,” he said.

According to Azam, the case was being investigated under Section 16 (a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009, Sections 409 and 165 of the Penal Code, with a total of 35 individuals having their statements recorded to assist in the investigation of the case.

Yesterday, the MACC, in a statement, confirmed that another high-ranking ATM officer was also arrested today to assist in investigations into a corruption case involving the uniformed force.
