BINTULU, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- The number of flood evacuees at three relief centres in Sarawak dropped to 322 from 94 families at 8 am today, from 415 from 123 families yesterday afternoon.

The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said 121 people from 32 families were at the Suarah Bintulu hall, 137 people from 44 families at the Sebauh community hall and 64 people from 18 families at the Sri Kemena hall, SMK Sebauh.

“There is a declining trend in the number of evacuees at the relief centres,” it said in a statement.

Flooding in Sarawak began on Dec 31 after several areas in Kuching city were inundated following continuous heavy rain.

Meanwhile, the Drainage and Irrigation Department, via the Public Infobanjir portal, reported that as of 7.30 am today, water levels at two stations — Long Teru (Miri) and Nanga Lemai B — remained above the danger level, while Stapang B station (Sibu) at the warning level.

It said the levels of nine other rivers were at the alert points but continued to show a declining trend.
