Macron's Party To Rebrand As 'New Republic'

MOSCOW, Jan 27 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- French President Emmanuel Macron's centrist party, Renaissance, will change its name for the third time in less than 10 years and become "Nouvelle Republique" (New Republic), Gabriel Attal, the party leader, said on Monday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

"Yes, because that's what our members want. I held a vote among Renaissance members on this issue, and more than 70 per cent expressed a desire for us to change the name," Attal confirmed to RTL radio when asked about the name change.

The rebranding will take place after the municipal elections in March. A party's name serves as its "shop window," Attal explained, saying it must align with its vision and reflect its ideology.

Work on the name change has been underway for several months, partly because the current name, "Renaissance," is either unfamiliar to many or carries negative associations, RTL has learned.

The party was founded by Macron in 2016 under the name "En Marche!" ("Onward!"). Following his victory in the 2017 presidential election, the movement was renamed "La République En Marche!" ("The Republic Onward!"). In 2022, it changed its name to "Renaissance."
