WASHINGTON, Jan 31 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The United States (US) Senate on Friday passed a funding package ahead of a deadline that will trigger a partial government shutdown at midnight, Anadolu Ajansi reported.
The lawmakers voted 71-29 on the package, which includes five long-term appropriations bills, while extending funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for two weeks to allow further negotiations over immigration enforcement.
The bill now heads to the House of Representatives.
Federal funding is still set to expire at midnight, as the House has yet to act on the legislation and is not expected to reconvene until Monday.
