JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 2 (Bernama) -- Police issued 247 summonses and seized 117 motorcycles during an integrated traffic operation conducted around the city, particularly along Jalan Ismail Sultan, from yesterday evening until early this morning.

Johor Bahru South district police chief ACP Raub Selamat said the operation, carried out in collaboration with the Department of Environment (DOE) and the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB), ran from 5 pm until 1 am today.

He said the operation was carried out to curb street gang activities that pose risks to road users and disrupt public order with excessively loud modified exhausts.

“A total of 215 individuals and 203 vehicles were inspected, with 247 summonses issued for various offences, including driving without a licence, non-compliant registration plates, structural or exhaust modifications, glare headlights and no side mirrors.

“Two individuals were arrested on suspicion of using a stolen motorcycle and riding dangerously. The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement today.

Raub said urine screening tests found six individuals, aged between 22 and 48, had tested positive for methamphetamine, ketamine and THC, with the case now under investigation under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“An individual wanted under Section 420 of the Penal Code was also detained during the operation for further action,” he said

Raub added that during the operation, the DOE issued 21 compounds and 25 notices to return for inspection under the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

He said integrated cooperation between PDRM, the DOE and MBJB would continue to ensure road safety and maintain public order across the district.
