Ramadan, Aidilfitri Made Meaningful As Families Get New KDKW Homes In Kuala Berang

KUALA BERANG, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- The arrival of Ramadan and the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration have been made more meaningful for two families after they received keys to their new homes.

The houses were built at costs of RM80,000 and RM66,000 under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KDKW) through the Central Terengganu Development Authority (KETENGAH).

The assistance was provided under the ‘Perumahan Rakyat Sejahtera’ programme to help eligible families own a proper home.

One recipient, Mohammad Sakri Kadir, 58, from Kampung Tok Dor, said the house was the most meaningful gift he has received in his life.

Mohammad Sakri, an express bus driver, said he and his family had lived in rented houses for 35 years before finally owning their own home.

He said the house, which has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, was handed over ahead of Ramadan and Aidilfitri, making the celebration more special.

Mohammad Sakri, who suffers from a nerve illness, said his family plans to gather at the new house on the first day of Aidilfitri.

Another recipient, Zamri Chik, 53, from Kampung Lubuk Batu, said he was very happy to finally own a home after years of renting.

Zamri, a school gardener, said his income was only sufficient for daily needs and he could not afford to buy a house.

He said this year’s Aidilfitri will be more meaningful as his family can celebrate in their own home.

The new homeowners received their keys at a handover ceremony from KETENGAH chairman Datuk Rozi Mamat here today, who said 10 houses were built for eligible residents last year, adding that the RM80,000 house is a new and improved design to provide better comfort.
