KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- A total of 99 enforcement officers from the Kuala Lumpur Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) have been deployed under 'Ops Pantau' to ensure price compliance and curb profiteering during Ramadan and the period leading up to Aidilfitri.
Kuala Lumpur KPDN Director Mohd Sabri Seman said the operation involves monitoring all Ramadan bazaars, with inspections focusing on the display of price tags, compliance with measurements, and the use of verified weighing instruments.
He warned that traders could face compounds for any offences committed under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
"We want to ensure that no traders overcharge or engage in profiteering, and that price tags are clearly displayed to avoid consumer confusion or any attempts to take advantage through price disparities.
"In addition, we want to ensure all weighing and measuring instruments used have been verified, as there have been cases of traders manipulating scales," he told reporters after conducting checks at the Taman Tasik Permaisuri RAHMAH Ramadan Bazaar in Bandar Tun Razak here today.
Ops Pantau which started yesterday will be carried out until March 20 to ensure that the supply and prices of goods remain controlled.
The operation covers various locations, including retail premises, farmers' markets, night markets, pasar tamu, supermarkets, bazaars, and online sales platforms.
