JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) foiled an attempt to steal about 250 metres of cable along the Kempas Baru–Kulai route last night, following the arrest of a local man.
In a statement, KTMB said its Train Control Centre received information regarding a signalling system disruption on the route at about 8.50 pm, prompting its Auxiliary Police (AP) team to conduct immediate patrols and inspections along the stretch.
“At about 11.30 pm, personnel on duty detected a suspicious individual at Kilometre 728.25 between the Kempas Baru–Kulai line.
“The suspect is believed to have been involved in cutting cables and attempted to flee upon realising the presence of security personnel,” the statement said.
KTMB said swift action by the AP personnel led to the suspect’s arrest at 11.47 pm.
Further inspection at the scene found that four-core cables had been cut, and several bags containing cable-cutting tools believed to have been used in the activity were discovered nearby.
According to the statement, the suspect was subsequently handed over to the Kulai District Police Headquarters for further investigation. Preliminary checks revealed that the man has 28 previous criminal records.
