JOHOR BAHRU, March 14 (Bernama) -- Police have arrested a headmaster to assist in investigations into an alleged assault on a Year One pupil that resulted in injuries last Tuesday.

Johor Bahru Utara Police Chief ACP Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said the police received a report from the seven-year-old victim’s 40-year-old father at 9.46 am.

He said initial investigations revealed that the victim was believed to have been struck by the 48-year-old suspect at the school canteen at about 7.39 am on the same day.

Acting on information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the man at the Johor Bahru Utara District Police Headquarters compound at 4.55 pm to facilitate investigations.

"A check of his records found that the suspect has no prior criminal history, and an initial urine screening test also returned negative," he said in a statement today.

Radin Ramlan added that the suspect was produced at the Magistrate’s Court here on Wednesday and was remanded for three days until yesterday before being released on police bail.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

Earlier, a post about the alleged incident went viral on social media.
