KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 (Bernama) -- National mixed doubles shuttler Toh Ee Wei believes her fighting spirit is the key weapon in staying competitive among the world’s top 10 pairs.
Despite acknowledging a gap in experience, the 24-year-old said it has not held her back, instead serving as motivation to raise her game against more seasoned opponents.
“I may not be as experienced as they are, but I always give my best in every match and every point. Fighting spirit on court is my greatest strength,” she said after a training session at the Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara today.
At the same time, she is not rushing to chase success on the international stage, choosing instead to focus on building consistency with her partner Chen Tang Jie.
Reflecting on their early exit at the All England two weeks ago, Ee Wei said the defeat served as a reminder not to take any tournament lightly, even as world champions.
She stressed that they accepted the result with an open mind, having given their all throughout the match.
“We cannot use experience as an excuse. I need to learn from every match and tournament. Even in defeat, we showed fighting spirit as we did at the All England.
“The mixed doubles field is very open now. We’ve seen champions coming from Taiwan and many top players losing. We just need to keep working hard,” said Ee Wei, who is currently ranked world number four with Tang Jie.
