IPOH, April 4 (Bernama) -- The government is studying mechanisms, including providing certain flexibilities to traders, to help them cope with the impact of the global energy crisis, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar said the current priority was to ensure a sufficient supply of essential goods, along with price controls to safeguard the interests of the people.

“That is the priority. Then we will see whether we can provide some flexibility to businesses, whether in terms of taxes, tariffs or imposed charges, so that these can be reduced to help lower costs.

“There are also suggestions regarding e-invoicing, whether it can be deferred. All these are being studied to reduce the burden on the people, including traders,” he told the media after officiating the Perak MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2026 here today.

The Prime Minister said this when asked whether the government would introduce an economic stimulus package following the current global energy crisis.

Also present at the event were Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Previously, the political secretary to the Finance Minister, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, said an economic stimulus package similar to that implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic era might be introduced to help ease the burden on the people amid the global energy crisis.
