IPGM To Give Full Cooperation In Investigation Of Trainee Teachers' Drowing Incident

KUCHING, April 7 (Bernama) -- The Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia (IPGM) has assured its full cooperation in the investigation regarding the accident that claimed the lives of two of its trainee teachers on Saturday.

Its deputy rector of the Student Affairs Centre, Shamsul Saniron, said that in addition, they will also inform the victim's family about the investigation's progress according to the established procedures.

He said that for now, the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further details cannot be disclosed at this time.

"We will provide full cooperation if needed and the results of the investigation will be communicated to the family," he said.

He said this to reporters after receiving the body of one of the victims, Christopher Ling Jia Siang, at the cargo centre of Kuching International Airport this afternoon.

In Saturday’s incident, the Bachelor of Education (PISMP) in Physical Education students, Christopher, 21, and Joey Ling Lin Siang, 20, were found drowned at around 7.30 pm while kayaking at Pantai Merdeka, Sungai Petani in Kedah.

Christopher's body, flown in from Penang earlier today, arrived in Kuching at around 4.30 pm.

A sombre atmosphere enveloped the cargo area as family members, friends, and other educators gathered to pay their final respects.

Christopher’s remains will be taken to Chan Funeral Services here for family members and friends to pay their last respects.

It is understood that Joey's body will be taken to Sibu.
