BALING, April 8 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Kedah branch raided a residential premises in Kampung Sungai Limau here last Sunday and found 288 kilogrammes (kg) of subsidised packet cooking oil stored without authorisation.
Its director, Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin, said the operation was carried out at about 11am by four enforcement officers from Baling after a week of surveillance following a complaint.
He said the premises was used for processing local snacks, and inspections found cooking oil believed to be used for frying chips.
“A 33-year-old local man, who claimed to be the owner, failed to produce a permit or approval to store the oil,” he said in a statement today.
A total of 288 one-kg polybag packets were seized for further investigation, with the value estimated at RM720. The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 (Act 122).
KPDN reminded that any misuse of subsidised goods by individuals or groups goes against the interests of the public and the nation.
