PUTRAJAYA, April 8 (Bernama) -- The government will study suitable mechanisms to leverage the MyKasih system and MyKad for the distribution of subsidies, including diesel, to Malaysians, said MADANI Government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi, who is also the Communications Minister, said the proposal will be refined by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) before being finalised at the Cabinet level and formally announced.
“Today’s Cabinet meeting discussed several follow-up measures from the National Economic Action Council meeting held yesterday, including initiatives to be pursued.
“This includes a proposal recently announced by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan on utilising the MyKasih system and MyKad for targeted subsidy distribution, including diesel for Malaysians,” he said at a briefing on the global energy crisis and a post-Cabinet press conference today.
Previously, Amir Hamzah said the government was studying the possibility of expanding the use of MyKad in implementing targeted diesel subsidies, following the success of the BUDI95 programme for RON95 petrol.
He said the approach could streamline subsidy delivery and reduce leakages, but would require careful assessment of logistics, usability and system readiness nationwide.
The use of MyKad under the BUDI95 programme, he said, has proven more structured, helping to curb leakages while achieving cost savings without significantly altering consumer purchasing behaviour.
