MUKAH, April 16 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Defence is targeting to absorb up to 200 Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans into the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).
Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said to date, 48 MAF veterans have been accepted to join AKPS in the first recruitment intake, with most stationed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and border areas in Peninsular Malaysia.
“MAF veterans are still relatively young and possess the appropriate training to meet AKPS requirements, particularly in safeguarding the country’s entry points.
“We hope more veterans can be absorbed, including in Sabah and Sarawak. Our target is for up to 200 veterans to meet AKPS needs,” he told reporters after the Peduli Veteran MADANI (PVM) 2026 programme roadshow in Daro today.
Meanwhile, Adly said the ministry is enhancing the welfare of MAF veterans through the PVM 2026 programme, which focuses on healthcare, housing, education and socio-economic aspects.
He said the programme is being expanded nationwide to ensure no veteran is left out, especially those in rural and interior areas.
“Several weeks ago, we were in Kuching, and today in Daro. In this programme, 11 veterans will be visited, including widows of veterans, their families, and children with disabilities,” he said.
Adly said the government has allocated more than RM300 million this year to assist MAF veterans, covering welfare, healthcare, housing and education.
He added that Sarawak has more than 11,000 MAF veterans, and the ministry commends the state government’s cooperation in assisting the group through the veterans’ associations.
