KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 (Bernama) -- Local company, Mindmatics Sdn Bhd, has developed a Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) communication system, now known as RADKOM (Radio Komunikasi Malaysia), aimed at strengthening the country’s strategic communications capability.

Its director, Abdul Wahab Sulaiman, said the system has been under development since last year as part of efforts to advance secure, efficient and high-tech domestic digital communications.

The name RADKOM, he said, was officially given by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) and National Security (NATSEC) Asia 2026 exhibition yesterday.

“RADKOM has completed internal testing and is now ready for suitability trials by the Malaysian Armed Forces to assess its effectiveness in real operational environments.

“The system adopts DMR standards aligned with the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), which are widely used globally,” he told Bernama.

Abdul Wahab said that among RADKOM’s key advantages are more efficient use of frequency and improved signal quality, which reduces interference.

“Its trunking system enables more secure, stable and organised communication, particularly in large-scale multi-agency operations,” he explained.

He said RADKOM supports both group and individual communication, making it suitable for sectors including security, utilities and transport.

“In terms of security, the system incorporates advanced encryption, including AES-256 encryption, as well as post-quantum cryptography to enhance data protection,” he said.

Abdul Wahab said the device is built to military-grade durability standards, capable of operating in harsh environments while supporting both digital and analogue modes within a frequency range of 350 to 479 MHz and transmission power of up to four watts.

“It is also equipped with GPS, a 3000mAh lithium polymer battery, and can operate in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 60°C with humidity levels of up to 95 per cent,” he noted.

He said the development marks an important step towards reducing reliance on foreign technology while strengthening Malaysia’s domestic communications and security ecosystem, with potential for nationwide deployment across critical industries.
