BEIRUT, April 22 (Bernama-dpa) -- A container ship has been fired upon by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Centre said on Wednesday, the German Press Agency (dpa) reported.
The authority said it had received a report of an incident 15 nautical miles (about 28 kilometres) north-east of Oman.
“The master of a container ship reported that the vessel was approached by one IRGC gunboat, with no VHF challenge, which then fired upon the vessel, causing heavy damage to the bridge,” the UKMTO said in a warning.
No fires or environmental impact had been reported, and all crew were reported safe, it added.
Since the US-Israeli attacks on Iran began on Feb 28, ships have repeatedly been hit by projectiles in the Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman.
Iran has in recent weeks launched threats and attacks that have disrupted shipping in the strategic waterway.
