KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 (Bernama) -- The national food security system must be further strengthened to safeguard farmers and ensure a stable food supply amid the ongoing global energy crisis, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said.
In a Facebook post in conjunction with his visit to the Vietnam Academy of Fishery Sciences (VAFIS) in Vietnam today, he stressed the need to strengthen the agricultural sector to ensure a more secure food supply amid the global supply crisis.
Mohamad said the visit had given him the opportunity to see first-hand the significant role of VAFIS, which places strong emphasis on research and innovation, particularly in aquaculture, in developing Vietnam’s fisheries sector.
“This is a very good initiative, and Malaysia is also giving serious attention to efforts to strengthen this sector.
“We can learn a lot from each other. I see a great opportunity for Malaysia and Vietnam to enhance cooperation, especially in aquaculture development, sustainable fisheries, and the sharing of knowledge and expertise,” he said in the post.
Mohamad expressed hope that the visit would not be merely an ordinary trip, but the beginning of stronger cooperation between institutions of both countries.
He said the existing good relations between Malaysia and Vietnam would continue to be reinforced, allowing both countries to tackle the global supply crisis while ensuring food supply security.
