KUANTAN, April 30 (Bernama) -- The application to organise the Water Music Festival Cherating 2026 has been rejected by the Kuantan City Council (MBK) for failing to meet the minimum submission period requirement.
MBK Corporate Communications Department Public Relations head Hani Syazani Kamarudin Arifin said the organiser’s application was received on April 15, 2026, and was discussed at the MBK Licensing Committee meeting on April 23.
She said the committee decided to reject the application as it did not comply with the minimum submission period of at least 21 days before the event date.
“The time between the application date and the event date was insufficient and did not meet the stipulated requirement. As such, the appeal submitted was also not considered,” she said in a statement today.
She added that integrated enforcement action would be taken if the event proceeds without approval, in accordance with the jurisdiction of the relevant agencies, such as the Royal Malaysia Police, MBK and the Pahang Islamic Religious Department (JAIP).
Earlier, the Water Music Festival Cherating 2026, which was scheduled to take place on May 1 and 2, had drawn negative reactions from the public, including political party leaders.
