PUTRAJAYA, May 4 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) is strategically optimising its resources to address current challenges, including financial pressures arising from global economic instability, said its director-general Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad.
He said global economic instability, compounded by the crisis in West Asia, has led to various constraints, particularly in financial management and rising fuel prices.
“However, the department remains optimistic in continuing to carry out its responsibilities efficiently and effectively,” he said in a statement in conjunction with the 2026 World Firefighters’ Day celebration today.
Nor Hisham said among the approaches adopted are prudent cost-saving measures and efforts to explore more innovative operating methods, including the Public-Private-People Partnership model.
He said JBPM would continue to enhance its operational and administrative capabilities through asset improvements, continuous training, technology integration and strengthened preparedness strategies.
“By upholding the principle of ‘work more with less’, we prove that limitations are not an obstacle to providing the best service.
“Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. Do not question what the country gives us, but instead ask ourselves what we can give to the country,” he told members of the JBPM in the message.
Meanwhile, Nor Hisham said JBPM would also strengthen the welfare, safety and psychosocial support aspects of its members, given that their duties are constantly exposed to various risks.
“We are aware that the duties of firefighters each day inevitably expose them to a range of risks, both internal and external.
“Therefore, various important initiatives have been implemented by the department through multiple channels to ensure that the welfare and well-being of (JBPM) personnel are always safeguarded, in addition to strengthening safety, training and psychosocial support aspects,” he said.
