KOTA KINABALU, May 8 (Bernama) -- After attending the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings in Cebu, the Philippines, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived here tonight to begin a working visit to Sabah.

The special aircraft carrying the Prime Minister and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, touched down at Kota Kinabalu International Airport at 11:12 pm.

Upon arrival, the Prime Minister was received by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, alongside Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunasalam and Sabah’s Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr. Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.

Tomorrow, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend several programmes in Kudat, including visits to Pos Dogotan on Banggi Island and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Banggi.

Notably, on November 10, 1994, Anwar - who was then the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister - officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the new building of SMK Banggi.

Additionally, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend a "Ramah Mesra" (meet-and-greet) session with the local community of Banggi Island before returning to the capital.

Banggi Island, located in northern Sabah, is accessible via a 70-kilometer ferry ride from the Kudat ferry terminal and stands as the largest island in Malaysia, covering an area of 440 square kilometers.
