KOTA BHARU, May 15 (Bernama) -- The General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade detained 360 illegal immigrants through Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan (OTWK) from Jan 1 to May 15 this year.
GOF Southeast Brigade Commander SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain said Myanmar nationals accounted for the most arrests at 264, followed by 40 Thai nationals, 30 Bangladeshis, and nine Indonesians.
Also detained were eight Indians, four Vietnamese, three Chinese nationals, and one each from Nepal and Pakistan.
He said 78 raids were also carried out during the period by officers and personnel from the GOF Southeast Brigade headquarters and the GOF 7th, 8th, and 9th Battalions.
"Identified hotspots include illegal jetties in Rantau Panjang, Pengkalan Kubor, Jeram Perdah, and Chabang Empat, frequently used as entry points by illegal immigrants.
"A total of 110 cases have been initiated against the detained illegal immigrants and ‘tekongs’ involving various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM)," he added.
The offences include entering Malaysia through unauthorised routes, staying without valid travel documents, overstaying, and allowing illegal immigrants to stay on premises.
